Today’s Tasting: 1 Corinthian 5–8
In this part of his letter to the Corinthians, Paul corrects ungodly behavior that some believers have begun to practice. In Chapters 5 and 6 he warns believers strongly about immorality and sets down guidelines for how believers who practice immorality should be dealt with. In Chapter 7, Paul writes about the principles of marriage, and in Chapter 8 about liberty in Christ. He warns believers that this freedom does not give them license to sin.
Today’s Nourishment: Paul’s words to the Corinthians also serve as a warning to believers in the Church today. Although our sins have been forgiven and our rightful punishment nailed to the cross (Allelujah!) this does not give us an excuse to use that freedom to be ruled by our sin nature. Our bodies are now temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). Let’s glorify God in our bodies by turning to the Lord each day and allow the world to see our God by the way we live.
In Galatians 5:13, Paul says, “do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh…”. Both believers and unbelievers will one day stand before God to give an account of their lives, and will be rewarded according to their actions here on earth. When that day comes, I want to hear my Savior say, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). I pray that the same is true for you!
