Do You consider yourself creative? Whether or not you have the passion for creativity, everyone needs a little creativity at some point in life. I would love to share some ideas about our God and His creativity, along with some prayers for creativity.
Have you thought of someone you consider creative? I think of people who are creative in various ways: musicians, artists, speakers, writers, crafters who create beauty from junk, or chefs who create tasty meals with wholesome and fresh ingredients.
I think of creativity the way Albert Einstein referred to it, “Creativity is intelligence having fun!”
My Prayer for Creativity
For years, I have prayed the 6:00 morning Messianic Jewish prayer, which bless our Creator.
The first prayer of the morning emphasizes God, Creator of all—the universe and everything and everyone in it. God is Creator and He delights in imparting His creativity to those who diligently seek it.
Pray with me:
Lord, You created everything in all its beauty! You created an array of colors for our eyes to enjoy. Thank you for such beauty. I ask for You to impart creative skills, experiences, ideas, solutions, and surprises for me today, in order to grow in Christ personally and to grow your kingdom. I Praise You Lord, for your creation and for the “new creation” I am in You—Christ in me! I will watch as you work creativity into my life! And, I thank YOU for it!
Creativity is a Gift from God
I never considered myself as a creative. Yet, I have owned and operated an interior design business for twenty-five plus years in the Carolinas. Others have repeatedly said to me, “You are so creative.” And, in my own way, I realized, I am creative. Creativity is a gift. The artistry of implementing such creativity pans out as a process.
I am not an artist who paints on canvas, though I may one day.
Nor am I am a singer artist who belts out beautiful notes of “Hallelujahs,” which might happen in heaven.
I am not a crafter who crafts something from nothing such as pottery, baskets, or glass blown pieces. Though, I may one day.
Yet, God gave me and you own creative gifts.
I do create and absolutely love creating and designing spaces by using the elements of color, texture, shape, rhythm, harmony, and dimension. It is what inspired me to have a whole category on this site called “Beautiful Surroundings.”
Creating Artful Ways
If creativity is “Intelligence having fun,” then I am having fun! The artist in me is tranquil and at peace when creating with my hands, head, and heart.
I am also stirred to create artful ways to inspire others hear God’s Word for living new, walking daily, and growing deeper in Jesus. To me, that is creating with intelligence.
Isn’t it amazing how much we can create our own prayer for creativity at the leading of His Spirit? Think about it this way, creativity is within the first sentence of the Bible!
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1).
So, I create artful ways to read, ingest, and digest scripture to mix with faith, connect with Jesus, and live new or grow deeper. Not just by reading or studying, though it may include both, but by living the words read. When we connect with Jesus and learn to keep company with Him, we will live greater than ever! He excels us to greater freedom, peace, and love than we could ever imagine.
