Previously, Israel addressed God as LORD (Adonia) because God’s name (YHWH) was “too holy” to even mention. For those outside the priestly role, intimacy with God was unacceptable in ancient days. Jesus addressed God as His Father in His early ministry, a sign of intimacy, a sign of knowing God in deep fellowship. Jesus told the disciples,
“But when you pray…pray to your Father…and your Father…will reward you…your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:6-9 ESV).
Will you pray to your Father today? This way of praying acknowledges an intimacy with our Father in heaven. Now, He is not a distant God, but a present God. We develop and cultivate a thriving, loving, relationship because He pursues us. He pursues us to love us. Let Him love you. Your Heavenly Father wants good for you.
