Today’s Tasting: Matthew 24 repeats the same message as yesterday’s reading, Mark 13, yet with a few different words.
The Holy Spirit emphasized these phrases to me:
“He is near” (Matthew 24:33).
“Be ready! The Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44).
Today’s Nourishment: My niece’s wedding day is this upcoming Saturday. She and Kelly (her Mom and the Kelly who writes with us on The Bible Feast Blog) and family have prepared for this wedding for about a year. She knows that He is Near and is ready to marry, but still needs to prepare for the celebration with a wedding ceremony and reception.
They have set the date and he knows when he will marry her. He is near! My niece’s bridegroom prepares now to meet his bride.
In the same way, let’s recognize that Jesus is Near! He is Near in your circumstances of whatever you are going through. He is Near in your grief. He is Near in your joy. He is Near in your everyday living. He is Near returning as The Bridegroom to take you as His Bride. Practice saying, He is Near me! That offers great comfort and encouragement to know that He is Near!
“Be ready” for Christ to return. We still have some preparations to complete before our bridegroom comes. What might be some of those preparations?
- Hearing His voice
- Allowing His Spirit to convict
- Resting in how God rescues others
- Living with and in peace with God and others
- Showing others your God by the way you live
He is near! In which area do you need to prepare?

I need them all, but hearing His voice and showing others my God by the way I live are the two that I need to focus on right now.
