My Christian Growth Story

My growth in Christ experience has been and will continue as a process. Everyone goes through the same growth processes. We start like newborn babies… “When we come to Christ, we’re Like newborn babies, you must crave spiritual milk so that you will ‘grow into a full experience of salvation‘” (1 Peter 2:2 NLT). Godly authors penned scripture to encourage us to “grow up in all things into Him–Christ Jesus (Ephesians 4:15 NKJV); “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18 NLT).”

My growth in Christ started with the spiritual milk of His Word, the Bible, penetrating my heart to know the God of the Bible. Making time for communication with the Lord increased my love for Him and His goodness to me. Perseverance kept moving me forward as He prompted me by His Spirit to share and disciple others in His Word, through PRAYER, and stepping out in faith to GO in the life–giving light of Christ, knowing and believing He’s my guide and lead. Receiving His love to refresh in His love helps me know the Father is up close and personal. He’s not distant or far away. And, knowing by experiencing Him helps me release His love to others. That’s my growth processes––what about you?

What are the different stages of growth and how do you grow into the different stages?  According to 1 John 2:12–14 ESV, there are different stages of growth in Christ. We grow from children to youth, then, mature adults, just like we do physically, as explained in the following ways:

  • Children accept Christ as Savior. We are forgiven, satisfied, and happy we are going to heaven (1 John 2:12 ESV). Reading/praying/studying/praying God’s Word helps us grow into a youth.
  • Youth live in power. And know how to overcome the enemy (1 John 2:13-14 ESV) which is mainly learned in PRAYER and standing in faith in our God and His promises. Perseverance in faith and reading/praying/studying/praying God’s Word helps us grow into mature adults in Christ.
  • Mature Adults–fathers and mothers know the Father’s Love. Close friendship helps us go on to spiritual intimacy with the Father: Papa–God (1 John 2:13-14 ESV).

“GO on to maturity in Christ” (see Hebrews 6:1 ESV). Growing–maturing in Christ–desiring to come close to know the Father’s love––He’s not a distant Father.

1)     Maturity Starts with finding the God of the Bible through reading and studying and PRAYER: Communication with the Lord.
2)     Maturity continues by seeing Jesus throughout the Bible: communication with Lord in PRAYER and through fellowship with other Christians.
3)     Maturity reaches adulthood through fellowship with the Lord that includes PRAYER and knowing His love: Come close enough to feel His breath on your face to receive His love, and refresh your soul with His love to release love to others via fellowshipping with a community of Christians.

In what spiritual growth stage are you?
