Spiritual eyes seem to slumber to the Lord and His Pathway. What will awaken us to the Lord’s love of providing the Bible? For too long we have lived with a famine of seeing His Pathway as His love and blessing for us. Before we move any farther, we will clarify some of the names that refer to God’s Pathway, which bless and provide instructions, found in Psalm 119:
- His law
- His testimonies
- His ways
- His precepts
- His commandments
- His righteous rules
- His statutes
- The Torah, the Pentateuch, and the Old Testament also refer to His Pathway, found elsewhere in Scripture.
Read verses 1-8 to get a glimpse of these names for His Pathway, which bless and provide instruction for life. Notice the result of receiving these instructions:
Aleph – “first” “strength”
119 Blessed are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the Lord!
2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies,
who seek him with their whole heart,
3 who also do no wrong,
but walk in his ways!
4 You have commanded your precepts
to be kept diligently.
5 Oh that my ways may be steadfast
in keeping your statutes!
6 Then I shall not be put to shame,
having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
7 I will praise you with an upright heart,
when I learn your righteous rules.
8 I will keep your statutes;
do not utterly forsake me![1]
His law is not a list of dos and don’ts. The Lord administered His Pathway in the context of love and blessing. Love provided His law to bless and teach a newly redeemed Israel of how to live. The Israelites enslaved way of life, for four hundred years, tightened their awareness of how to live for the Lord. They worshipped other gods, while living in Egypt. They lived in a spiritual slumber with no idea of how to love or live for this God. They learned of God, the One True God, and Creator of the universe, and found Him as a personable God. He knew that when their spiritual eyes awakened, to His instructions, living by His law would bless with wholeness and completeness in their lives.
The Lord took Israel as a wife and loved her as His own. The bride (Israel) consented and became His spouse. The Lord gifted His law and betrothed His Spirit, who would never leave or forsake us. We make the choice to “fix my eyes,” on Him and His Word, while the Holy Spirit opens the eyes of our understanding.
What occurs when our spiritual eyes awaken to the Lord? Our first response to His love appears as our spiritual eyes awaken and “see” Him and His Pathway. Response to His Love blesses us, as we “seek Him with our whole heart” and with “my eyes fixed” on Him.
My choice today – I choose to “fix my eyes” on the Lord. My spiritual eyes awaken and respond to His love and blessing. Results: I live blessed, saying the right words and doing the right things as God’s Word Lives in Me.
How may I fix my spiritual sight on His Pathway, awaken to His path, and live His Pathway?
Next time, we will look at the benefits of living “blessed” with “my eyes fixed” on Him and His Word.
