Romans 4-7 – What Choices Will You Make Today?
Today’s Tasting: Romans 4-7
In these chapter of the book of Romans, Paul is reminding the Romans of the importance of faith over works and the role that sin plays in their lives. He reminds them that it was Abraham’s faith that God found righteous, not his deeds. He reminds them that through Jesus Christ, God kept the promise He made to Abraham when he said “I have made you the father of many nations” (4:17). Paul goes on to tell them that because of faith and the sacrifice made by Jesus, they have all been brought to a place where they can have peace during trials because God loves them so much that He gave them the Holy Spirit to fill their hearts with love.
Paul goes on to tell them that when Adam sinned, sin entered the world and that brought death to all. Christ on the other had was a gracious gift to us from God so that we could once again be made right with Him and no longer die to sin.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord” (6:23)
Today’s Nourishment:
What a blessing it is to know that we can choose faith and righteousness over sin!! The letters from Paul that we read in the New Testament never cease to inspire me to be better today than I was yesterday. Sometimes the Old Testament readings about the trials and struggles of people like Abraham can cause us to forget about the grace and love God offered up to us through Jesus Christ our Lord. In his letter to the Romans, Paul reminds us that we no longer have to be slaves to sin, we can choose to live in relationship with God, choose faith over sin, and choose eternal life over death.
“Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace” (6:14)
My husband and I watched the What Would Jesus Do movies this weekend and they were another great reminder that we have a choice in the life we choose to lead. Much like Paul’s letters, this movie reminded us to be conscious of the moment-by-moment choices we make in our daily lives so that our lives can be a living example of the love God has for us and shining light of the love that Jesus Christ showed us when died for our sins.
