Today’s Tasting: 1 Chronicles 6: 1 Chronicles is something of a retelling of the genealogy of the Jewish people. Chapter 6 recounts the bloodline of Levi, whose descendants became the Levitical priests who, after the exodus, were charged with the care of the temple and performance of priestly duties.
Today’s Nourishment: Although the readings in 1 Chronicles are far from captivating, it is important to recognize their significance. Part of what validates Jesus’ claim to be the Messiah is the fact that he was born of the line of David. This fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament and God’s promises to the Israelites.
Whenever I come to sections of the Bible that I find rather boring, I try to discover their significance as it relates to the Bible as a whole. When I do this, it becomes a process of discovery and I am amazed at how beautifully the Bible is put together. For me, this is evidence that the Bible is the work of God. If you contemplate the magnitude of the Bible stories covering thousands years, there is no way they could NOT be God inspired.
There were many generations between Levi and Aaron, and Aaron and David—too many for their significance to each other to have come together by chance. The best genealogy tools of our modern day cannot accomplish the genealogical consistency of the Bible.
So the next time you find yourself yawning over who begot whom, try to remember that these sections of the Bible are where God reminds us of His grand plan and how He brings all things together for the greater good of humanity.

And just think, Monica, we are in that grand plan of our God. He works the genealogies to bring us into reality. He has purpose for us.
It is amazing how the Lord planned from before the foundation of the world that our Savior would be born of a woman and as a man; and that He gives a record of it in scripture. Praise you, Lord!
Yes He has worked this plan through generation after generation which includes us today. I think it’s amazing that what He was working in and through people like Moses & David He is doing in us. Thank You Father that we have such great examples to follow after!
