Today’s Tasting: Joshua 16–18: The descendants of Jacob became known as the twelve tribes of Israel. The chapters in today’s reading describe how the land that God gave to Israel was divided up among the tribes.
Today’s Nourishment: In Deuteronomy 20:16–18, God told Israel that when they entered the land he was giving to them, they were not to leave anyone alive who would teach the Israelites their detestable ways. But the Israelites neglected to completely obey God’s command and kept the Canaanites as their slaves (see Joshua 16:10). As we read further in the story we will find out that after Joshua’s death the Israelites begin serving the Canaanites’ god, Baal.
How many times are we just like Israel? God speaks clearly to us and tells us to do something, or not to do something. But then we get in our own heads and start reasoning for ourselves why we should or shouldn’t do what we think is right.
Proverbs 14:2 says “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” Proverbs 12:15 also says, “The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.”
The lesson for us is to be careful about trusting our feelings and acting on what we think is right. What does God say? Take time to get quiet and listen.
Specifically, what does the Bible say? Are there verses that you can point to that support your course of action? The Holy Spirit has a way of bringing to mind just the right Word to guide you, if you’re willing to pay attention.
What do the wise Christians you know say? Listen to their advice.

Kelly, that’s why I think getting wise counsel from other trusted Christians is good especially if we are struggling in what to do. Prov 30:5 says Every word of God is pure He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. This was good for me today thank you Kelly. I truly desire to do it God’s way for He always knows what’s right and always has our best interest in mind, he is a good Father and so faithful!
Kelly, your post has stirred me to search my heart and get quiet to listen and hear the Lord. Some physical issues have clouded my clarity lately on the direction I need in certain areas. I start Monday with a personal trainer and nutritionist who specializes in back issues. I believe the Lord has sent him my way. I also, plan to get some coaching from others on the direction I need to go with a couple of projects I have designed for Christian women. Thanks for hearing the Lord to write this post.
