Today’s Tasting: Jeremiah 35-37(MSG)
35- The Rechabites showed obedience by doing all that their father asked of them.
36- Jehoiakim burned Jeremiah’s scroll.
37- Jeremiah warned Zedekiah and was imprisoned.
Today’s Nourishment: I’m mostly amazed with Jeremiah’s imprisonment reading these verses. They say he was being imprisoned for deserting the Chaldeans. In fact, Jeremiah only spoke the word of the Lord, repeating to Judah what God had told him to say, which sounds like persecution to me.
This was such a big reminder and eye opener to me, that in our Christian walk we will be persecuted for doing and saying what the Lord says. We cannot recant or back down, no matter what others say or do. I imagine Jeremiah didn’t want to go to prison, but he stood his ground and did what the Lord told him to do. He delivered the message God wanted delivered. We must do the same.
Will you obey the Lord at any cost? Even imprisonment? Pondering such thoughts gives you something to question yourself with, doesn’t it? We must always remember, “For he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4 ESV).
