Today’s Tasting: 2 Chronicles 32-33
Sennacherib, King of Assyria, invades Judah during Hezekiah’s reign as king. Hezekiah sent this message to Judah,
“’Be strong and courageous…With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us fight our battles’” (2 Chronicles 32:8 ESV).
Sennacherib “spoke of the God of Jerusalem as they spoke of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the word of men’s hands” (2 Chronicles 32:19 ESV). They blasphemed God and shouted to His people. Yet, when Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet prayed, the Lord delivered Jerusalem.
Manasseh, an evil king reigned in Jerusalem for fifty-five years. He set up places for idol worship and offered children to the gods that he worshiped. Manasseh led the people of Judah in worshiping idols. Assyria captured Mannasseh and caused him to erode into distress. He repented and cried out to the Lord. The Lord delivered him. Mannasseh removed the idols and restored the altar of the Lord. The people started offering sacrifices to the Lord.
Amon, an evil king, sacrificed to idols and the people conspired against Amon and murdered him. Josiah, his son, succeeded Amon.
Today’s Nourishment: What’s invading your life? If you are trusting in the arm of the flesh, repent and turn to the Lord to worship Him as He fights your battles. Speak of His greatness and you will see His greatness.
The Lord has been answering prayers in such specific ways. It seems that this year, we ask the Lord for something and He quickly answers in a powerful way. I was to help my sister with a message, which she was to speak at a ensuing conference. Our responsibilities had limited and it was like a battle to create her message. My sister and I prayed for the Lord to give her the message that she was to share. As we prayed, He immediately started downloading His message to us for her to share. It was a powerful time of turning to the Lord and watching Him fight the battle for us.
