Today’s Tasting: Isaiah 31-34
31: A warning is given to those who look to Egypt and the Egyptian army for their help, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or seek help from the Lord. Humans and horses cannot deliver. But, God is not human. He will deliver. The Israelites are urged to return to the Lord, the One they have so greatly revolted against.
32: The land will be delivered and will flourish. A righteous king is prophesied. Hezekiah is that king for that day but is a foreshadowing of Jesus who will come and rule in righteousness and bring spiritual renewal.
33: The Lord is exalted by His people. He comes to their aid. There is a contrast between the wicked ones who do not belong to the Lord and the righteous ones who follow His ways. He is strong in the land and brings blessing to the people for their repentance.
34: There is a coming day, a Day of the Lord, in which he will destroy all the wicked and wipe them out. He will have a day of vengeance and retribution. He will destroy the land of Edom and will make it a wilderness because of the sin and wickedness of the people there.
Today’s Nourishment: It is foolishness and folly to put your trust in anything except the Lord God of Israel, the Lord Jesus Christ. Humans can’t deliver you, armies can’t protect you, the President and the Congress can’t bring you relief or bless you.
Only God in his infinite wisdom and love can protect you, provide for you, keep you safe and cause you to flourish. So, it is foolishness and folly to look anywhere else but to Him for everything.
He calls us to repentance for placing our trust anywhere else. What are you trusting in? Your job? It could be gone tomorrow. Your bank account? Look at Greece in the news these days. Banks are no longer safe, either. The army or the local police? They cannot guard you 24/7 and there are terrorists out to do our country and its people great harm. Even lone-gunman and men with swords are lurking ready to end a life in the name of their beliefs.
Who or what do you place the entirety of your trust? Big things and small things…give them to Jesus. The Bible tells us that there is coming a day when Jesus will return to gather His people and destroy the enemy. Choose now to place all your trust in Him. Trust Him with your family, your income, your peace of mind. Only He can control that throughout eternity.
Is there something you need to give over to His trust today? Don’t waste another moment. Do it now.
