Today’s Tasting: Psalms Chapters 89, 96, 100, 101, 105, 132
Psalm 89 – Claiming God’s Promises: The community, led by their King, gathered for praise and prayer – greatly burdened with national calamity. The King challenged his dire circumstances with defiant songs of adoration.
Psalm 96 – Declare The Glory Of God: The people proclaim the good news of God’s salvation from day to day. Honor and Majesty are before Him and they give God the glory due His name.
Psalm 100 – Serve The Lord With Gladness: The peoples’ hearts are stirred to praise and thankfulness because of God’s faithfulness and unchangeable goodness. Their joyful songs are to be the response to who God “Is” and what He “Does”.
Psalm 101 – Commitments Of A Holy Life: This is about the King’s oath and intent to serve God righteously with a pure heart. His people will be people of integrity and faith.
Psalm 105 – Remember God Keeps His Promises: Israel is invited to return thanks to God. Its overall theme is God’s faithfulness to His promises. Israel’s sacred history is sketched in such a way as to reinforce the spiritual lesson that God is utterly trustworthy and able to save and keep.
Psalm 132 – Trust In The God Of David: There is a ceremony and God is urged to bless their present King. David makes a solemn promise not to rest until the ark has a permanent home. Victory and success will mark his reign. The worshippers are conscious that, in a past era, their God once and for all, revealed His will in deed and word and that it is their privilege and responsibility to identify with that revelation.
Today’s Nourishment: These six Psalms are about God’s faithfulness and remembering His promises. As the people gathered to praise, it was for His love and faithfulness realizing God’s dependability and goodness; just as we gather in God’s house every Sunday to worship, praise, and sing, remembering our past victories and His love and promises to us.
He is truly a God of day to day – His mercies are new every morning. We have reason to give Him the glory due His name. When I think of the worshippers being in joyful song because of who God “Is” what He “Does,” it makes me want to run and shout. How much more should we be rejoicing in that He is still the same yesterday, today, and forever keeping His promises?
I challenge you to sit in His presence remembering who he “Is” and what He “Does,” claiming His promises, and giving Him the glory due His name! Join the conversation below to share with others what’s on your heart.
