Today’s Tasting: 1 Chronicles 3–5: The reading continues the genealogy of David, as well as the genealogy of some of the other tribes of Israel.
Today’s Nourishment: After reading through the family lineage for today, I asked God to show me the nourishment for today. Sometimes it’s hard to read through family history, but if you seek and ask His guidance, the Lord nourishes every time.
In 1 Chronicles 4:9, I found the nourishment for today. Jabez came into his name because he was born by his mother in great pain. The name she gave her son, Jabez, told of the pain she suffered. The nourishment for today is actually found in verse 10:
And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying. “oh, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that your hand would be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
How often do you call on the name of the Lord for what you need or to give you your heart’s desire?
Jabez prayed to God what was in his heart and his prayer was to benefit those in his sphere of influence. He was specific in what he asked for, believing God would answer.
In Bruce Wilkerson’s book, The Prayer of Jabez, Wilkerson brought this prayer to our attention. I remembered praying his prayer for a long time. Read through each section of Jabez Prayer and pray for yourself and your sphere of influence:
Bless me indeed
Enlarge my territory
Your hand would be with me
Keep me from evil
That I may not cause pain
God granted him what he requested

Robin, this is a great prayer to pray and expect the Lord to hear you and answer. Lord, bless us, indeed. Enlarge our territory to reach many people with The Bible Feast Blog and other ministry areas we are all involved in. We pray that your hand lead and guide us and protect us. Lord, keep us from temptation and evil. We pray that we will not cause pain to your kingdom, but only gain to your kingdom.
Amen and amen!
Amen! I love the Jabez prayer! I join with Carolyn in praying that this blog will reach people for His kingdom!
I too love the Jabez prayer and have it hanging up in my office to this day. I believe in praying specific too because you are speaking it or speaking to it.
