Today’s Tasting: Matthew 23, Luke 20-21
The Scribes and the Pharisees are seeking after Jesus to challenge His authority. They are trying to close in on Him, in order to arrest Him. Jesus, aware of their intentions, reveals their hearts’ motives. He states, “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down” (Luke 21:34).
Today’s Nourishment: Jesus opens our eyes to the Truth and reveals things in our hearts that cause us to live burdened. He is found in these chapters, revealing truth and sin and cares of this world that burden to weigh on people. He points out the way, which they added religion, in order to look good on the outside. Yet, they were filthy and corrupt on the inside. One example, which He emphasized: washing the outside of a cup and not the inside.
In Luke 20:17, He asks the meaning of Psalms 118:22-23,”the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.”
Jesus went on to say that anyone who falls on that stone will be broken [in pieces] but whoever it falls upon, it will crush them and scatter them as dust. This speaks to how, when we fall on Him, we will be broken, but He will put us together into Himself. If we reject Him, judgment will surely come and crush us. We will scatter as dust, with no hope of Eternal Life.
“But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down” (Luke 21:34).
Today, let us be about our Father’s business, as Jesus went about the Father’s business. Let’s look into our hearts and allow Him to break it, or to take from us those things that weigh so heavy, and those things that steal our joy for living. Let’s be made right. Wait not longer. You may then, live the abundant life, which He promised!
