Have you ever thought of asking when you read scripture, Holy Spirit, “Please enrich the words to me as I read scripture?” We asked last evening in our LIVE Savoring His Word Group as we read, “The Word of God is living and active” (Hebrews 4:12 ESV). The Holy Spirit spoke a profound and unique word to each lady in the group from these eights words. He proved that His Word does not return void–His Word is active and living.
A-ASK and TASTE: “Holy Spirit, enrich scripture as I Read.” The ancients called this way to read scripture, Lectio Divina (Divine Reading). Slowly read a brief passage of scripture. Read it as though you are hearing it read to you. Read, taste, and pray again to gather facts and without judging or analyzing the words.
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things that you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).
As Believers, His Spirit offers us the gift of understanding scripture.
“Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures (Luke 24:45 ESV).
“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding” (1 John 5:20).
“Reading His Word is an immense gift, but only if we eat, chew, gnaw, and receive in unhurried delight to assimilate and take into the soul. We grow in accordance with the Revealed Word implanted in us by His Spirit,” Eugene H. Peterson, Eat This Book and author of The Message.
