October 11 – Matthew 11: A Fresh Start
Today’s Tasting – Matthew 11
‘”Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly’” (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG).
Today’s Nourishment: This whole chapter grabbed my attention. One part in particular was when Jesus talks about the Judgment Day for those who had heard and knew about Jesus, those who had been with Him and saw what he had done, the miracles He had performed. They knew the words He had spoken. Though with Him, they still didn’t believe.
It kind of frightened me for those who profess to know Him. So many people know about Jesus, possibly grew up in church, but grew out of church, turning from the one they know as the true and living God. In these verses Jesus warns us of the fate of those living in that state. He said even Sodom and Gomorrah would have a better chance than these on judgment day. “They did not repent” (Matthew 11:20 ESV).
We have hope in His name: Jesus and He’s coming back for his bride…soon! Let’s not be known as ones who knew him but still KNOW him.
Carolyn” Addition: Then, Jesus spoke the verses mentioned in Today’s Tastings.
Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly'” (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG).
Do you need a fresh start? You may be tired, worn out, or burned out on religion. “Come to Me…recover your life,” Jesus said. Jesus continues to say today, “Come to Me!” How do we, “Come to Jesus?”
- We Repent: “Change your thinking” – “Turn”
- We Recover our lives to live in rest as we:
- Walk with Him to change your mindset in everyday moments of choice
- Work with Him to grow and live in Christ-fullness
- Watch how He does life to observe how you may change any less than Christ-like character and any less than Christ-like learned behaviors to do life His way
- He Refreshes His grace and restores fellowship that we may “Keep Company with Him.” Then, we will find ourselves living “freely and lightly.”
A fresh start takes time to practice and get into a good rhythm. Take one step at a time to implement each area into your life and you will find yourself living in hope and knowing Him.
