Today’s Tasting: Romans 1-3(NLT)
“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile” (Romans 1:16 NLT).
“For God does not show favoritism” (Romans 2:11 NLT)
“There is only one God, and he makes people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles” (Romans 3:30 NLT)
Today’s Nourishment: “God let’s the sun shine on the just and the unjust.” These are words that my grandma and parents said to me while growing up. Though I didn’t really understand then, these words stuck with me through the years and still stick with me to this day.
God is no respecter of persons nor does He show favoritism. I thought to myself, what kind of God would He be if did show favoritism, if he only let the sun shine on the just, if he only sent His Son for the Jews (the good people that kept the law) and not the Gentiles (the heathens)? Well, that’s just it, He wouldn’t be God because those are characteristic traits of man and God is not like man.
God sent His only begotten Son to take our place and pay for sins He had not committed, and He did that for everyone. He offers salvation to everyone who believes and Ge gives grace and mercy to everyone. He offers these things to all because he is a just God. Even when we wrong Him, hurt Him and sometimes turn our backs on Him, He still offers to us love, forgiveness, grace, and mercy. Some will take this and use it as an excuse to sin, to do the wrong things because they think to themselves, “Well, I’ll eventually come back and make things right.”
Unfortunately, there’s not always time for us to come back and make things right, it doesn’t always happen that way. Let’s make up in our hearts and minds to not take advantage of the unconditional love and grace God offers to us all, but to see this as more reason to give Him out everything and be grateful to Him for all that He’s done, all He’s still doing, and all He’s going to do.
So, we are all favorites. He created us for His pleasure (see Revelation 4:11). Let that sink into your mind and heart. God loves you and created you for His pleasure, not to show favoritism, but because you are His favorite.
